History - Max Keeping

Max Keeping (1942 - 2015)

Founded in 1997, Youth Ottawa was spearheaded by Max Keeping after being challenged to take his advocacy for children and youth to the next level.

For 20 years, we have been providing youth across Ottawa with the resources, training and support to build the skills, confidence and strategies necessary to be successful and build a better community for themselves and their peers.

Youth Ottawa (formerly Child and Youth friendly Ottawa) is a not-for-profit charity that envisions an Ottawa where youth drive positive change. Our vision is based on our belief in youth. We support Ottawa youth by encouraging them to seize opportunities, harness their ideas and spark change.

Youth are the heart of our organization. We pride ourselves on encouraging young people to take on leadership roles while supported by adult mentors. Our programming is created and nurtured by young people in our community. It provides them with a platform and opportunity to engage, learn, experience and try new things while using their voice to reach out to their peers.

Our mission is to engage, encourage and empower youth to spark change and take action in our community. Youth Ottawa often works in partnership with the City of Ottawa to increase youth action within our city, impacting over 4,000 youth, per year.

Our vision is an Ottawa where youth drive remarkable positive change. One such program is the Ottawa Youth Engagement Committee (OYEC) that is made up of youth that help encourage youth engagement and amplify youth voice and representation at the City of Ottawa.
